Head of Strings – Ergys Koni. Acclaimed as possibly the finest violinist currently resident in Malaysia. A former member of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, he successfully auditioned for the post of Concertmaster in 2014. Ergys is assisted on violin by Ooi Tek Yi a recent graduate of the prestigious Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and leading the cello team is virtuoso Malaysian/American Aamil Sulaiman.
Shuenda Wong, the virtuoso Malaysian pianist is an ambassador for Trinity College London and heads up our BAPA piano team. Cheah Mun Wei graduate from Birmingham Conservatoire, the renowned Valerie Khoo (formerly Gligorov) and Kathy Hoo Masters in Performance and Pedagogy from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire University, UK and Yip Mei Yi MA Music Performance, Cardiff University and BMus (Hons) Classical UCSI University are also among our highly accomplished piano tutors who will develop your piano skills whether you are a beginner or an advanced player.
Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium and Tuba studies are overseen by the Principal Paul M Baker, who has over 40 years experience playing French horn at the highest international levels with many of the world’s leading orchestras and for several years headed up brass teaching at Alice Smith International Secondary School.
Flute, Oboe, Clarinet & Saxophone are all available at BAPA and currently include Wong Xue Fen from Sydney Conservatorium teaching flute, Shigeki Sasaki from the Malaysian National Symphony Orchestra, Oboe and Eddy Lim, another graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire teaching Saxophone.
Whether you want to learn to sing anything from Opera to Classical to Pop, our outstanding vocal team will be your mentors. Headed by former Paris Opera star and coach of TV3’s Mentor programme, Maja Pavlovska will help you sing your way to stardom assisted by Irma Lailatul BA ( Hons ) in Music Performance from Mara University of Technology and Joanne Poh BA Music from University of Malayia.
Take your ‘pick’ from Malaysia’s finest classical female guitarist Chua May Ling LTCL Trinity College London, LRSM Rockschool and Teachers Grade 4 Yamaha, or well-known local virtuoso Leon Lee.
We have Dance classes in Contemporary Dance , Ballet, Jazz and Tap by seasoned dancers and teachers; Kenny Shim, acclaimed dancer and choreographer from the world-renowned Trinity Laban Dance School in London will show you how to use your body to become a great dancer in his classes. Lim Pei Ern, dancer and Ballet teacher, graduated First Class Honours in Dance from LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore specialising in Contemporary Dance and Ballet. Denise Yap, Tap and Jazz teacher, BA ( Hons) Musical Theatre LASALLE College of Arts. We plan to introduce further dance classes in the near future in Scottish Dancing, Irish Dancing, Indian Classical, Belly Dancing, Modern and Bollywood.
Take dancing and singing, add a dash of acting and you have Musical Theatre. Combining all three disciplines, our one year course culminates in a show case in which you may find yourself working alongside seasoned professionals., with quarterly mini showcases and the opportunity to sit Trinity College, London exams. Headed by Kerry-Ann Khoo, Bachelor in Dance from The Victorian College of Arts (Melbourne University), and ably assisted by a whole range of experienced specialist teachers, actors, dancers, singers, choreographers and performers who impart their own particular speciality to classes throughout the year. Our Musical Theatre programme is the most integrated and unique course of its kind in Malaysia. There are 3 groups in Musical Theatre: Beginners age 6 to 10, Intermediate age 11 to 15 and Advanced age 16 and above. Please enquire for the date of our next intake.
SPEECH AND DRAMA
Our new Speech and Drama course is headed by Tan Meng Kheng, BA of Media, Murdoch University, Perth, Australia and Diploma in Mass Communications from KDU College, Malaysia as well as Acting Training Theatrethreesixty and Actor’s Gym, along with Rathippriyah Balsan B.Ed. TESL ( Hons) Unisel Bestari Jaya and Cert. in Performing Arts Asthana Arts and Ranessa Theyakaraja, graduated Diploma in Performing Arts from Sunway University College. Our course uses drama, performance and acting, texts and different dramatic techniques and a range of literary forms such as play extracts, poetry and prose of different periods and genres focusing on delivery, pronunciation, expression, articulation and diction, to develop vocal, physical and character creation skills with live practical assessment. Enjoyable and challenging. Suitable for all ages and backgrounds. Grade 1-8 individual, paired or group Trinity College London syllabus and Certificate exams.
For babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers. This globally reknowned series of general musicianship classes prepares the very young for their future musical journey by developing their rhythm, pitch and motor skills. All Musikgarten instructors undergo a rigorous training programme gaining the skills to teach babies from just a few weeks old, right up to group keyboard classes for 6 year olds. In the experienced hands of our teachers Siew Ling and Sharon McIntyre your children will progress through the various developmental stages which will build their skills, confidence and experience, in a fund and nuturing atmosphere ,preparing them for when they are ready to progress onto learning an instrument with all the knowledge Musikgarten has to offer.
